EOA vs Safe Wallet on Polymarket Perps: Which Address Is Your Real Account?

Ahmed Trading· sdk · Updated October 2026

You use a Safe (smart-contract wallet) on Polymarket — and your perps positions don’t show where you expect them. That’s by design: perps accounts key to your EOA base address — the externally-owned account that signs account creation — not the Safe address. Balance, positions, history: all tracked against the underlying EOA. Getting this wrong means empty lookups, wrong API queries, and confusing support tickets.

Which address identifies my Polymarket Perps account?

Your EOA base address — the externally-owned account that signed the perps account creation (createProxy), not a Safe smart-contract wallet address, even if you use a Safe elsewhere on Polymarket. Every perps lookup — positions, balance, funding history, support references — uses that EOA. Event-market balances may live under the Safe/proxy architecture (the deposits guide covers that side — see deposit mechanics): the two ledgers are separate views on one account, and the perps one is EOA-keyed.

The practical confusion this creates (and fixes)

API queries return empty. Querying perps endpoints with the Safe address returns nothing — use the EOA. The API guide shows the account endpoints; the authentication guide shows how the signing identity maps.

Bot configuration drift. A bot configured with the Safe address will read zero positions and cheerfully “re-open” exposure that already exists — the risk layer’s position checks (see the 8 components) must query the EOA.

Support tickets. Reference the EOA when asking about perps — official support (never the DM kind, see impersonators) keys perps records to it.

Withdrawal planning. The perps balance’s withdrawable math reads the EOA’s positions and the 10% notional floor — see the floor mechanics.

EOA vs Safe: the security trade-off you’re actually making

The EOA-keyed design means your perps account is only as strong as your EOA key hygiene: that key signs account creation and (depending on flow) authorizes trading — a compromised EOA key is full perps compromise, delegation or not (see the 7702 check). The hardening guide applies double to the EOA that keys your perps account: scoped session keys for bots (session key safety) instead of raw key usage wherever possible.

FAQ

Does Polymarket Perps use my Safe wallet address? No — perps accounts key to your EOA base address (the account that signed createProxy), even if you use a Safe elsewhere on Polymarket. All perps lookups and support references use the EOA.

Why does the API show no perps positions for my address? You’re querying the Safe address — perps records key to the EOA. Switch the lookup address; empty results on the wrong key look exactly like zero positions, which is why bots must be configured with the right one.

Can I move my perps account to a different address? The account keys to the EOA that created it — treat address choice as permanent at account creation. Plan keys and hygiene before creating (see the hardening guide).

Where do event-market balances live vs perps balances? Different ledger views: event-market flows use the proxy/Safe architecture; perps track the EOA. Both are your account — the deposits guide covers the event-market side.

How do I check my perps balance correctly? Query the perps endpoints with your EOA, or check the UI signed in with the creating account — external verification of any balance claim is the withdrawal-planning discipline.
